It’s There in the Red: We Can Be an Overcomer!

One of the worst things that we as God’s people deal with is regret. We fall, falter, or just plain mess up and even though our Father has said He would forgive us if we repent, we tend to carry the weight of remorse around, feeling as if we can’t get past it. We feel this way because we don’t get in the Book and then believe it!

Seven times in the book of Revelation Jesus tells the seven churches that there will be a blessing for him that overcomes. To be an overcomer means that you had to have some situation or difficulty that you had to get over. If we read 1 John 1:8-9 we see that all of us fit that category:

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)

All of us as sure as we breathe are going to at some point ‘miss it’; we’re going to let the flesh overrule our spirit in thought, word, or deed. The good news is that we don’t have to stay there. The remedy is so simple, that we often feel that it is not enough to pay for the sin we committed. Yet, there is no penance that can outweigh the blood of Jesus Christ. He paid with His life for our sins, and the blood He shed on Calvary’s cross – still works!

As we embark on this new year, let us repent for our past and even present sins and leave them at the cross. Let us find our new address, where God wants us to live on Overcomer Street:

“No one who abides in Him [who remains united in fellowship with Him—deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin. No one who habitually sins has seen Him or known Him” (1 John 3:6, AMP)

and

For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God].1 John 5:4 (AMP)

Blessings,

Maria
