A Different Kind of Release!

In the Old Testament God set up certain decrees that were established to ensure peace and prosperity within community. One such decree had to do with releasing neighbors from debt:

At the end of every seventh year you must cancel the debts of everyone who owes you money. 2 This is how it must be done. Everyone must cancel the loans they have made to their fellow Israelites. They must not demand payment from their neighbors or relatives, for the Lord‘s time of release has arrived.  Deuteronomy 15:1-2 (NLT)

This release gave everyone an opportunity a second chance to make gains in their life. Thinking on this, the thought came, what if we set aside a determined time every year to release all of our community from judgement? What if we freed all of our opinions, our grievances, our anger, our resentment, our frustration – in short, what if we gave a universal release of all negative emotions  that we harbor holding people in hostage? What if we freed them to be who they are and accepted that same kind of freedom in our life from others?  This revolutionary action could eliminate the majority of things that cause us sickness and disease. There would be such a liberty that we could all sleep well at night, and work well during the day.

Of course with eliminating negative emotions, we have to replace them with something else, or that vacant place will be a fertile place for the enemy (and his friends) to come back. Thus, we understand the purpose of the Word of God in our life:

Our teaching about this journey is intended to bring us to a single destination—a place where self-giving love reigns from a pure heart, a clean conscience, and a genuine faith. 1 Timothy 1:5 (The Voice)
