A Lesson from Zerubbabel…

Whenever we enter into a task assigned us by the Lord, the first place we should go to – is the Lord. If God gave you the tasks it is no doubt bigger than you can do on your own. It is something that God wants to partner with you in performing. Yet, sadly that is usually the last place we run to, after exhausting ourselves trying to do it on our own.

We can all learn a lesson from the Word of the Lord that came to Zerubbabel:

⁶ Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)

One thing about Zerubbabel is that he was born in captivity. He had “heard” about the mighty works of His God, but he had yet to experience miracles in his own life. Sent to Jerusalem with a band of captives from Babylon, he was made governor with the commission to rebuild the temple. This was a monumental task for many reasons, but he had encouragement from among others, the prophet Haggai.

The greatest encouragement came from verse 6 in chapter 4 of Zechariah – and it is not just a word to Zerubbabel, it is a word to all of us. We will never have enough strength within ourselves, we will never have enough power. Yet, God’s spirit can perform everything from the smallest to the greatest, after all He is the One who made it all. We can take courage in knowing that our future is as secure in God, as our past and present have been.

Have you ever thought that it took no work on your part to enter this world? God said it and you appeared – in a set time and place. Have you ever considered that the same God who saw to your beginning, is more than able to see you through all the way?
