A Prayer for Every Day!
The Bible is rich in offering prayers, both in the Old Testament and the New. There are specific prayers for specific answers, however, there is one prayer that fits all of us every day. The Apostle Paul when writing to the church of Ephesus included a request that this letter be read in all the churches. This letter contained foundational truths that applied to all believers, Gentile and Jews. In the first chapter of Ephesians it contains this petition:
“…I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” Ephesians 1:16b-18 (NLT)
In breaking this down, Paul is asking the Father to give to each one of us:
- wisdom and insight
- light in our hearts
- understanding the hope given to those he called
We ask why:
- wisdom and insight that we might grow in our knowledge of God
- light flooding our hearts that we understand the confident hope He has given to us
- recognizing that we as his holy people have a rich and glorious inheritance
These words are a blueprint for our daily launching pad into the adventure that God has called us to. If we have this basic wisdom and understanding than we face every day with hope and courage because we have both wisdom of God and the revelation of HIs will for us. We will not be defeated in any situation because God will give us insight as to how to navigate every terrain. The key is understanding that this is not a once and done! This is a daily prayer, bent on listening to God’s direction.
Every day we face challenges, obstacles and hindrances. Yet every day – God’s mercies are new (Lamentations 3:23). Isn’t it good to know that we serve a God who will prepare us, equip us, and be with us in any and every situation? Well, in case you didn’t know, He is – that kind of God!
Maria
