Ah, Mondays…
Monday has always been labeled as challenging. For whether you are working or have left the working world, it seems as if it is a challenge to begin a new week. For me, as I look around I see so many task, it is easy to just forget all of them because there are too many to be done in a day. While there are some people that enthusiastically welcome a challenge and can’t wait to begin conquering it, that is probably not true for the majority of us. We tend to put off things until later, and if we do decide to tackle something it is usually something very easy.
The purpose of this thought is not to to talk about performing tasks. Rather, in looking at a distinct human characteristic like ‘avoidance”, we see that it spills over into every area of our life, especially with our relationship with God. It is so easy to say, “I’ll get right tomorrow, after all I have plenty of time”. For every spoken word like this, it is good to remember what Jesus said to the man who built many barns:
16 Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. 17 He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ 18 Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. 19 And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’
21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Luke 12:6-21 (NLT)
While we should not be concentrating on the date of our death (which no one knows), it is certainly a good thing to always have your boarding pass in tow. Getting right with God assures us passage to heaven even if we live until He comes again!
