Counsellor! by Yolanda Livingston
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be call Wonderful, Counsellor, The might God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV)
As I think on this Advent season, and look at this verse of scripture, the thing that stands out for me is Counsellor. The Lord is our counsellor. You may ask how is the Lord our counsellor? I’m so glad you asked, let me explain. The Strongs KJV, defines counsellor in the Hebrew, as a primitive root; to advise, reflexively to deliberate or resolve: –advertise, take advice, advise (well), consult, (give take) counsel (-lor), determine, devise, guide, purpose.
I’m so grateful that God has revealed this to me. He is my counsellor. He both counsels me and provides me counsel through counselors. As long as I seek wise counsel, I’ll hear from God. The way the Lord counsels me is through His Word. His word, says, I am healed. His word says, I am free. His word says, I AM more than a counqueror. His Word says I’m delivered. His Word declares that in the midst of a storm, He is my PEACE. His Word declared to me that I AM a Royal priesthood, a chosen generation, a peculiar people. His Word declares to me that He is my Provider, my Peace, my Strong Tower, my bridge over troubled water, my shepherd. He tells me, I am more than… more than a conqueror through Him. I am more than enough. His Word declares that He loves ME! He LOVES me so much that while I was yet a sinner He died for me, He rose for me, He is now interceding for me at the right hand of God the Father. He is my counsellor. What about you?
The Lord’s counsel assures me of His promises to me. He promises to never leave me nor forsake me. He said, He knows the plans He has for me. Plans for good and not for diasaster to give me a future and a hope, Jeremiah 29:11. He promises to give me rest, when I am weary. He promises power for the weak, and strength for the powerless. He promises, if I trust Him, I will soar high on the wings like eagles, and run without becoming weary, walk without fainting. He promises to supply ALL my NEEDS, according to His riches in Christ Jesus. He promises, if I will listen to Him, I will live in Peace, untroubled by fear or harm. As a result, I join with Paul, in being fully persuaded that nothing can ever separate me from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither my fears for today nor my worries about tomorrow, not even the powers of hell can separate me from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below, nothing in all creation will ever be able to -separate me from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord, (Romans 8:37-39).
I personalized each verse to give emphasis that He is all this to me, you have to decide that He is all this to you, as well. His promises, His counsel is for us all. He is my Counsellor. I pray this both encourages and provokes you to declare these things in your own life, for yourself. The Lord is your Counsellor as well as mine, if we will listen!!! He is the COUNSELLOR. BLESSINGS & MERRY CHRISTMAS!
