Dream of Dreams…

There have been times in history when darkness has so covered the earth and our personal world that it seemed as if an expansive dome had been placed over it. Sunshine could not penetrate the heavy clouds of doom. Then something would happen, like the birth of a baby, or a couple getting married, or a son or daughter graduating, and then the darkness seems to lift a little.

This is the tone of the prophet Isaiah was prophesying to the whole world in Isaiah 9:6:

There will be a new time, a fresh start. Hope of all hopes, dream of our dreams, a child is born, sweet-breathed; a son is given to us: a living gift.
And even now, with tiny features and dewy hair, He is great.(the Voice)

What a description – "a fresh start" – ":hope of all hopes" – "dream of our dreams". Not the usual translation of this passage that we use – but how fitting – a sin tossed world, swallowed up in clouds of despair gets a release – a fresh breath of air brings with it hope, the fulfillment of dreams, with the entrance a of a sweet little baby boy. He was no ordinary baby, for even with his birth – the seeds of His great calling were present. Though the innkeeper where he was born had not got the news, the announcement of his birth had extended into the far eastern lands and beckoned wise men to honor him. Shepherds on night watch in the fields were sent to witness his coming into the world. Hope for the world wrapped up in swaddling clothes –

At this point He was unable to fulfill His mission – but both mother and earthly father had been forewarned –

Messenger of the Lord: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to wed Mary and bring her into your home and family as your wife. She did not sneak off and sleep with someone else—rather, she conceived the baby she now carries through the miraculous wonderworking of the Holy Spirit. ²¹ She will have a son, and you will name Him Jesus, which means "the Lord saves," because this Jesus is the person who will save all of His people from sin. Yes, light has come – no more darkness to those who would embrace the message that this little baby boy would one day give….hope alive, dreams fulfilled.
