Feelings or Promises?
There are countless women (and men) who do everything they know to do, everything they are counseled to do, and everything they believe they hear God telling them to do – to save their marriage. And with all that they do, they end up still losing the battle. It takes to two to agree to remain in the covenant of marriage, one cannot do it alone. There is comfort in the scripture for those who are hurting:
For the Lord hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. Isaiah 54:6,7,8 (KJV)
There are times when no matter what our relational status, that we feel as the woman forsaken and grieved in spirit. It is a human condition. Just as we can feel joy, we also can feel despair; just as we can feel alone, so we can also feel comforted. If you can experience one feeling, you can also feel the antithesis of that feeling. Being able to feel is a blessing that God has given us, though we always want the good feelings and not the bad.
Feelings however, do not create or cancel the promises of God. The promises of God don’t get dished out depending on how we feel, but on what we believe. You can feel aches and pains, but if you take hold of the word of God which states that “by HIs stripes, I was healed”. By grabbing hold to that promise by faith, even if you body doesn’t seem to hear it, before you know it God will give you a remedy, whether natural healing, or exercise, or in some cases it might be through the hand of the doctor.
Thus, when I read Isaiah 54 and it describes those times when we feel forsaken as a woman who has been cast aside, who is wondering whether her and her children will be alright, whether they will have the things they need, whether their spirit will overcome their pain- then we can look to these verses:
13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee…
17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants t’s of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. Isaiah 54: 13, 14, 17 (KJV)
For every human condition has a divine response. Praise The Lord!
