Fulfilling Our Mission On Earth
Today is President’s Day in this nation. Many schools and businesses have the day off. It was originally a day to give recognition to the birthday of George Washington, our first President. Although various states gave recognition to various notables on different dates, Washington’s birthday was first celebrated on the third Monday of every February. After 1971, it became one of the established Mondays set aside for uniform holiday recognition across the nation. It also became known as President’s Day, the day to recognize all U.S. Presidents/
The election of 2016, perhaps more so than any other election revealed the faults and failures of mankind. With the ability of media to "uncover" things that were once hidden; we now seem to also have a delight in exploiting and heralding the faults and failures of others. Since there is none without some type of sin, it is hard to really celebrate anyone. Yet, it is interesting that no one says, ‘I won’t take the day off because that person really was a bad person".
My point today however is not concerning holidays. Rather it is to speak to what our mission is as a believer in Christ Jesus. An interesting translation of 1 John 4:11-12 says
11 So, my loved ones, if God loved us so sacrificially, surely we should love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God with human eyestruly lives in us. Consequently God’s love has accomplished its mission among us. (The Voice)
Our mission on this earth is not to love the good and hate the bad. Our mission is so much greater. The verse above verse 11 says:
Because of this, the love of God is a reality among us: God sent His only Son into the world so that we could find true life through Him. 10 This is the embodiment of true love: not that we have loved God first, but that He loved us and sent His unique Son on a special mission to become an atoning sacrifice for our sins.1 John 4:9-10, (The Voice)
Jesus’ mission on this earth was to love us and become our Savior and Redeemer, even though we were sinners! He fulfilled His Mission. When we love all mankind, the good, the bad, and the ugly, we fulfill our mission.
Selah,
Maria
