It’s Really For Your Benefit!
Many scriptures come with a warning, but none so real as the one in Galatians 6:1:
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any sin, you who are spiritual [that is, you who are responsive to the guidance of the Spirit] are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness [not with a sense of superiority or self-righteousness], keeping a watchful eye on yourself, so that you are not tempted as well.
2 Carry one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the requirements of the law of Christ [that is, the law of Christian love].
3 For if anyone thinks he is something [special] when [in fact] he is nothing [special except in his own eyes], he deceives himself. Galatians6:1-3 (AMP)
As you grow in wisdom and in stature with the Lord, you find out what the old folks used to always say, ‘what goes around, comes back around‘. If you don’t know what that means, keep living – for the same measure you mete out to others, will indeed be met out to you. We can criticize, find fault, say what we would do if it were us – all of these high sounding words when we’re speaking of someone else and their decisions. Yet, before we know it, what happens is that the same thing we thought we knew the answer to, turns around and jumps in our backyard and we react the same way, or worst, to what we just criticized the other person.
God has fixed this thing so, that the best we can do is just what we find in verse 2, “carry one another’s burdens – for in so doing we begin to act like we are a Christ follower, we begin to show love in action – mercy in judgement, and grace to forgive.
And why do we do this, because all of us are but dust! If we somehow think we are better than someone else, we are only deceiving ourselves. When the deal goes down we are all one step away from blowing it, and we all need the gentle wind of the Holy Spirit to keep us planted in His Word.
