Lead Me to the Rock!

I came across a familiar text today, however in a different version. Psalm 61:2 (AMP) reads;

From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help].

The additional explanation at the end of the verse, "a rock that is too high to reach without your help", brought this familiar verse into an entire new revelation. I love to quote the section, "lead me to the rock that is higher than I", without considering that a rock that is higher than I will mean going up a terrain that will be new and different, and possibly difficult. All I can think about is getting to that Rock, called Jesus, not considering the effort that it will take for me to get there.

Another interesting thing about this verse is where the Psalmist declares, "lead me"; not carry me or fly me there; rather, "lead me". The Psalmist no doubt would like to be quickly relieved of their troubles, but intuitively knew that was not the right answer. The most effective way to get to the ROCK is to walk the pathway that :"leads’, working in collaboration with God, not expecting Him to do all the work.

One of my very wise pastors once said, "when you fall, don’t ask to restore you to where you were; for where you were, didn’t keep you; ask Him to take you to a higher place". This made sense to me when I heard it, and I can really say Amen, now that I’ve lived it!
