Now That is An Inheritance!

Depending upon the relationship, having someone leave us in death can be a hard thing. When there is nothing to take care of final expenses it can be particularly hard. However, when the one that passes on has left an inheritance, it does not ease the pain, but it eases the burden.

When the Israelites were told by Moses that they would be in the wilderness awhile, certain stipulations were established, among them determinations for the Levites. In Numbers we find God telling Aaron what will be the lot of the Levites even after they arrive in the Promise Land:

20God said to Aaron, “You won’t get any inheritance in land, not so much as a small plot of ground: I am your plot of ground, I am your inheritance among the People of Israel. Numbers 18:20 (MSG)

While the other tribes of Israel would get their assigned portions of land, the Levites would not receive any assigned portion. What were they to do? God thought of everything that they needed, including answering their questions concerning a land allotment. They wouldn’t need one, because God Himself would be their “plot of ground”. He would be their inheritance! I don’t know about you, but having God in charge of my inheritance sounds a lot better than having a mortgage with a bank!

Fast forward a few hundred years, and that is exactly what Jesus did for us:

Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever. I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, you don’t really believe me. Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go. John 6:35 (MSG)

We have a promise from Jesus that He will be our Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. Yes, even You. We don’t have to be Levites to come share in His inheritance.

Maria
