People Make Up Nations!
There is hardly a day that goes by when someone in the public eye, (and private) does not make some claim against our nation. We are constantly barraged with all the ills of this nation and seldom do we hear of anything good. If you take it in, it makes you want to run away, but where would you run? For what nation exemplifies the virtues that it should? In fact scripture proclaims:
Why are the nations so angry?
Why do they waste their time with futile plans?
2 The kings of the earth prepare for battle;
the rulers plot together
against the Lord
and against his anointed one.
3 "Let us break their chains," they cry,
and free ourselves from slavery to God."Psalm 2:1-3 (NLT)
The thing we fail to see in this discussion on nations is that people make up nations. A nation can only be as good as its’ people.
Any examination of a nation has to begin with the hearts of the people who make up its’ citizenry. A hard-hearted people who walk contrary to the ways of God and in essence want to free themselves of any God consciousness will certainly become as described in the Psalm above. To get a better nation, we have to become a better people:
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
