SHIFT!
We are fast approaching fall and the countdown until the end of the year. Whatever place you find yourself in, it’s time to consider the possibly you need to "shift". the definition of shift necessitates movement:
shift – (verb) to change the place, position, or direction of (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
What needs to be moved however? Often we feel as if is just physically moving . Yet, Matthew 5:6 (MSG) suggests something else:
6 "Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.
Initiating steps forward is not always the best "movement". Sometimes "standing" is the best posture. That does not mean we don’t need to "shift". As the scripture above states, finding a quiet place and making ourselves available, simply and honestly, takes the attention off of us, and helps us "shift" our focus to God. The next line is so beautiful to me, "…you will begin to sense his grace". Now that’s a real "shift"! Basking in the presence of God enables us to partake of His other attributes as well. Knowing that our very position in HIs presence is an act of grace, helps us realize that the essence of His grace is unmerited favor. When this fully hits our heart, how can we doubt that our very life is in His hands and we are moving forward in it.
