SOME THINGS NEED PLAIN LANGUAGE!
There are times when God is trying to get a message through to us and as much as the KJV is both beautiful and instructional, you just need to go to a version that has plain every day language – no thees and thous. Such was my situation as I lamented over a rather long standing problem. Immediately a familiar verse came to mind, Isaiah 40:31 – yes, yes, it was all good. Taking a glance at a couple of other translations, I decided that this one was really clear:
Why would you ever complain, O Jacob,
or, whine, Israel, saying,
"God has lost track of me.
He doesn’t care what happens to me"?
Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?
God doesn’t come and go. God lasts.
He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.
He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath.
And he knows everything, inside and out.
He energizes those who get tired,
gives fresh strength to dropouts.
For even young people tire and drop out,
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
they walk and don’t lag behind.
I got a whole lot more out of what I needed from this verse in The Message translation. It’s kind of like that throughout all the circumstances of our life. When faced with an unusual situation, a familiar remedy may come to mind. However, we might need to dig a little deeper, not for new truth, but for truth expressed in a different way.
While there are those very sincere believers who swear by the KJV and consider all other versions akin to heresy; I don’t believe that. I believe that God has used men and women of God in our generation to present truth in a context we can readily understand – not new truth – just plain language to our ears, that "we don’t get tired, weak or lag behind:
