Still Talking About Promises!

I love the book of Hebrews because it is full of the promises of God! It will build your faith and cause you to have hope when nothing seems to b going right.  I can remember as a young believer when God told me to read the book of Hebrews every day until I believed it. I was trying to believe for a miracle for my first child to be able to go to a Christian school. Before the week was out, the school called me and told me that her tuition had been paid. While I have a good idea as to who the anonymous donor was, that did not stop me from taking on this challenge to read and re-read the book of Hebrews every time my faith was in need of reinforcement.

If there is one verse that I can call my life verse above all others it is found in Hebrews 10 beginning with the 35th verse. While all the translations speak to me, I chose tonight to highlight The Passion Translation:

36 You need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God’s will and then you receive the promise in full. 37 For soon and very soon,

"The One who is appearing will come without delay!"

38 And he also says,

"My righteous ones will live from my faith.
But if fear holds them back,
my soul is not content with them!"

39 But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life!. Hebrew 10:36-39 (TPT)

The rhythm of these words brings joy to my heart: "you need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God’s will and then you will receive the promise in full". What a love letter. What a promise! God woes us with His words to entice us to walk with Him, to depend upon Him, to trust HIm. He wants us to be secure in the knowledge that He is for us, and that all we need to do is to continue to have faith in Him, no matter how circumstances look.

The marvelous thing about this passage is not only is God issuing a promise, but the author is giving a promise back, a promise we can all write our signature to affirm:

"but we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish, we are among those who have faith and experience true life". True then, true now, true for all who name the Name of Christ!
