The God Who Sees Me
Imagine a pregnant young woman forced to flee out in the wilderness from the only home and provision she has known. All of a sudden she realizes she is by a well of water. And then, as crazy as it seems, she hears a voice that says:
12 This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his relatives."
13 Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, "You are the God who sees me." She also said, "Have I truly seen the One who sees me?" 14 So that well was named Beer-lahai-roi (which means "well of the Living One who sees me"). It can still be found between Kadesh and Bered. Genesis 16:11-13 (NLT)
Hagar asks the question, "have I seen the One who sees me"? This is a question that we still need to ask today. Everyone of us at one time or another will walk through desert situations where it seems that there is not even any water. And, as impossible as it seems if we will listen attentively to the voice of the Living One who sees us, we will discover that we can also see Him!
Once Hagar realized that there was "One" looking out for her, who had even led her to a well in the desert she could return to her situation with Sarah and Abraham and walk out the days of her pregnancy until her rough and tumbling son came forth. Hagar named the well, "well of the Living One who sees me"; what name have you given your well?
