The Question is HOW?
There is no doubt that our young people are tempted in every way they turn. In fact, they don’t even have to turn, because in their hand is a tool that will take them into the very depths of hell itself. And the age we are giving them this tool is younger and younger.
Yes, the phone in their hands has no moral restraint. Even sites you think are safe, usually have some kind of link or addendum that can turn a young mind away from moral teachings into an immoral state, or amoral at the very least.
So how can a young person keep themselves from the temptation of this world? It’s a very simple answer that begins with “how”?
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts]. Psalm 119:9(AMPLIFIED)
It is as true today as it was in the days when David roamed the hillside of Jerusalem. A young man (and woman) can only keep themselves pure by knowing both themselves and the Word of God. Their life must line up with the Word of God in order to keep God’s precepts. Thus the Word must be read, and re-read and even sometimes explained.
I am an advocate for Sunday school. Contemporary churches shy away from Sunday school in favor of more flexible youth programs. Whether it’s called Sunday school or Youth Night, there should never be a meeting when in some fashion the Word of God is not presented in a way that a young person can have practical application for their life.
Fortunately, this generation is passionate about many things. Most have lived in historically unprecedented prosperous times of peace. In this kind of environment, young people are ripe to find something they can believe in and take a stand for. No matter what the temptation around them, a young person who seeks to have a solid belief system will gravitate toward a challenge, even if it is unpopular.
How great it would be if this generation were shown that they could be Champions for Christ in the midst of a pagan culture.
