This is the Prayer For Now!

All over the country school is going back in session. The arguments and protests continue to rage, and they are not just covid arguments. There are justifiably still real concerns as to what type of precautions should be taken, and how school should be set up to ensure the safest environment for both students and teachers. Yet, many of you would be surprised at what school boards and parents are most vocal about: what pronouns teachers should use in regards addressing their students. In the midst of all the confusion in the world, here is an issue that has risen to the top of the charts!

When I find myself overwhelmed, I have often been known to quote this verse:

From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help]. Psalm 61:2 (AMP)

Thankfully I am no longer in the public school classroom – for my frustration was already at a pinnacle trying to catch high school students up to level when they would come to with third grade reading scores, or lower Forty or fifty minute classes don’t have enough time for subject matter, let alone dealing with every social issue that vies for attention. It almost appears to be a conspiracy against any real learning taking place in the classroom.

I began teaching over fifty years ago. It was a much simpler time, even though there were revolutions raging in the sixties.I was thinking this morning about how quiet and calm my classes were when I began. It is sadly a different world today – the noises of the world have crept into the classroom and already hyped up students wear these issues like their latest jersey.

There are some parents and teachers who are fighting back. They have determined that they will not hand over their children’s education to the latest social scientist to experiment with. This is the right of ever parent, to attend school board meetings and voice your opinion over the type of curriculum that your child is being offered. While it may be difficult for one parent to be a dissenter and achieve success, we are reminded of the following quote:
