This Word is Not Just for Timothy!
The Bible is an everlasting document. God knew that every generation would need to hear certain principles and commands, and so they are written so that every generation can profit from them. When you take ownership, they will not only bless you but propel you into a new season in your life. Such are the words that the Apostle Paul gave to his son in the gospel, Timothy:
So Timothy, my son, I am entrusting you with this responsibility, in keeping with the very first prophecies that were spoken over your life, and are now in the process of fulfillment in this great work of ministry, in keeping with the prophecies spoken over you. With this encouragement use your prophecies as weapons as you wage spiritual warfare by faith and with a clean conscience. 1 Timothy 1 :18-19a (TPT)
Paul knew that Timothy, like most of us would struggle to find our place, and sometimes get discouraged. When he was with him, he spoke prophetic words concerning his life that would provide him direction. What is interesting in this passage is that he not only spoke of these words as a source of encouragement, but also as ‘weapons of spiritual warfare". As true as it was for Timothy it is just as true for us today. Those words of prophecy that were spoken to us that filled our hearts with joy were not just to make us feel good. They were road maps and signs that pointed to our future. God uses people to acknowledge and generate that inner dream placed in our heart.
Dreams don’t come to pass just because we dream them. It takes prayer and it takes work. That dream of completing college that high school graduating seniors have today, won’t happen unless they put forth some effort. There will be days when having done all they can, it will still seem out of reach – that is where that prophetic word combined with that dream must be used as a weapon against discouragement and outright attacks of the enemy of our soul.
The good news is that waging spiritual warfare by faith, and doing all that you can do, double teams the enemy and releases revelation and insight how to get the job done.
What a blessing to know that God doesn’t send us out to fight a battle, and not give us the weapons to succeed. As the wisest man who ever lived said:
Wise strategy is necessary to wage war, and with many astute advisers you’ll see the path to victory more clearly. Proverbs 24:6 (TPT)
