We Live, to Live Again!
The statement above is something it takes a minute to think about. What does it mean? How do you live, to live again? This phrase came to me in response to the following scripture:
21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
23Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” John 11:21-27
in this passage of scripture Martha confronts Jesus with what could be construed as an accusation. She very emphatically told Jesus that if if had been in Bethany when Jesus was sick, he would not have died. Martha had enough knowledge about Jesus to know that He had healed countless numbers of people that He did not even know. Surely He could have healed Lazarus, who He loved.
Jesus’ response to her was that Lazarus would rise at the end of time. Martha affirmed that as true. Then Jesus proclaimed a statement that grabs you, that in fact He was the “resurrection and the life“. He went on to say that “whoever lives by believing in me – will never die”.
Herein the title of this message makes sense. For if we live – believing in the Messiah, then we will live again in the resurrection. Hence all of our days as believers are only preparing us for that great gettin’ up morning when we will live forever and ever and ever!
What comfort to know that each day of our lives is never in vain.
Maria
There’s comfort in knowing that that day WILL come.
