What Do You Do When You Are Stuck?
Yesterday my computer was stuck. I could not get it to function in any way. Recognizing the problem was not enough, I needed help. However, I couldn’t even get to the Apple help on the computer, because nothing would move. It then begged a larger question for me, “what do you do when you are stuck”? This is not the first time I have had this problem with my computer, so I turned it off and then turned it on – still stuck! Finally after repeated tries, I called it a day – supposing that tomorrow (now today) would be better. And of course – today – somehow it became unstuck!
If only all of life’s problems were like that. That we could just shut everything down and call it quits for a day and then wake up and the problem be resolved. What happens when the problem is not resolved, maybe a word from Proverbs holds a key:
When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame, But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind. Proverbs 11:2 (AMP)
This may seem a strange scripture to interject here, but let’s look at it. The first part of this scripture may cause a rise in you – none of us as believers like to feel as if we are proud – so we might immediately reject this, especially when we see the result – dishonor and shame. However, as we look at the next part that the humble are really humble because they have “been chiseled by trial and (who) have learned to walk humbly with God”. This portion of the scripture is really the crux of getting unstuck. When we allow the places in our life to cause us to be chiseled – and we rise from our seat of “knowing it all” to come before God in humility recognizing that He is the One who knows it all -then we not only gain wisdom, but we can gain soundness of mind – stability!
Proverbs 16:25 says:
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Getting unstuck begins with accepting the fact that we don’t know it all. That without the grace of God operating in our life we will not only get stuck, we will walk in the ways of death – not being able to do anything at all.
Oswald Chambers had this to say:d
It is not true to say that God wants to teach us something in our trials. Through every cloud He brings our way, He wants us to unlearn something.
In order to understand and apply this, it takes humility. We will only progress in this life as we regress from that which we are certain of and place all of our issues in the Hands of He who knows the end from the beginning – our Father God.
