What is Your Word for Tomorrow!

What happens to our tomorrows? Yes, we live in the ‘today’, but if we continue to live, we will face a tomorrow! What will our tomorrow be like? Based on what your today is, what do you want your tomorrow to look like? What are your prayers, your forecasts, your projections. Can we speak a word that will frame our ‘tomorrows’ to be better than our ‘today’? These are questions that all of us ask at one point or another. As we look at the world landscape today, it is probably one we really need to think about.

In times of war, in times of famine, in times of gross immorality- are we seeking the Lord for a Word? Elisha did in the a time of great famine in Israel and this is what he said:

Elisha replied, “Listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.” 2 Kings 7:1 (NLT)

Elisha was mocked for this word and even one in the king’s house had this to say:

The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!”2 Kings 7:2 (NLT)

And yet, when tomorrow came this is what happened:

16 Then the people of Samaria rushed out and plundered the Aramean camp. So it was true that six quarts of choice flour were sold that day for one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain were sold for one piece of silver, just as the Lord had promised. 17 The king appointed his officer to control the traffic at the gate, but he was knocked down and trampled to death as the people rushed out. 2 Kings 7:117 (NLT)

Elisha heard a sure word from God because it came to pass – not by his orchestration, but by events that occurred as a result of the Word. A question you might be raising is why was the officer trampled to his death? I can’t answer that, except to say to be forewarned is to be forearmed. Our belief will either help or hinder us – it pays to not only hear the Word of God from someone else, but also to be in such relationship that we can hear God too!
