What Saith Thee, My Lord?

Today’s scripture is taken from 1 John the fifth chapter:

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:4-5 (KJV)

This is a foundational scripture for all believers to stand on. We are destined to be overcomer if we have been born of God. How do we overcome?  By our faith. How does that get started, by believing that Jesus is the Son of God!

Believing that God, our Father, sent Jesus, HIs only begotten Son, into the world to save us from our sins. To redeem us from our fallen humanity, and restore us into right relationship with the family of God. Having this assurance that all "family" is backing you, both in heaven and in earth can propel you on to do great and mighty things. As the scripture says, "two are better than one, and a threefold cord is not easily broken" (Ecclesiastes 4: 9).

So we tread forward, unrelenting, steadfast, propelled into the realm of the impossible made possible! Child of God there is no mountain too high, no valley too low. There is no obstacle that you can’t go around. When we receive commission from our Lord, with joy we take the assignment and know that we will overcome. Even if we fall, we know that "although a righteous man falls seven times, he will get up again" (Proverbs 24:16).

In fact, our life becomes a legacy of the "overcomer", for we are reminded of the words of our Lord in the final book of instructions:

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Revelation 3: 10-13 (KJV)
