When the Snow Comes…

Here in the Chicagoland area we experienced the first real snowfall. There will be many others in this season, but there is something pure about the first one – it is not yet contaminated with winds blowing dirt over it. Looking at the scriptures and reading about snow, I was moved by one passage of scripture:

She is known by her extravagant generosity to the poor,
for she always reaches out her hands to those in need.
²¹ She is not afraid of tribulation,
for all her household is covered in the dual garments
of righteousness and grace. Proverbs 31:20-21 (TPT)

This familiar passage of scripture stunned me when I saw the word,"tribulation" where snow usually is. 

Of course, in an agrarian society, that also depends on smooth waters for fishing, snow was not a good thing. For people with no refrigeration, it could mean some very lean meals. Yet when I looked up what The Passion Translation had to say about this passage, what they referenced was that everyone in her house was clothed with the blood of Jesus, and the dual garments were righteousness brought by grace. Hence, we see the Proverbs 31 woman as being in submission to God, and she has covered her household with the grace of God so no matter what tribulation comes, her household is going to be alright. 

Interesting, the lines above that reference her "extravagant generosity to the poor:, …helping "hands to those in need’. This is consistent throughout the Bible that if you give, it will be given unto you:

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38 (KJV)

Since the beginning of ‘seasons’ – there has spring, summer, fall and winter. This will continue until God brings forth a new heaven and a new earth. Just as consistent as the seasons are, so too are God’s principles. We can all take a lesson from the Proverbs 31 woman.
