Which One Are You?
One of the characteristics of a person who is walking contrary to the will of God is that they are usually filled with pride and arrogance. They have postured themselves in a way that gives them a voice to know the best about all situations in their life and do not seek help or counsel from others. We only have to look at the head of the angelic choir to see how those like him respond:
2 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:12-14 (KJV)
Conversely a person that is walking in the will of God seeks to be humble and postures themselves to always be ready to help with humility rather than criticize:
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Galatians 6:1 (KJV)
Two opposing positions, one that exalts oneself, and the other recognizing the fragility of man having compassion for others.
Which type are you?
Actually for most of us we can find ourselves acting out either position at one time or another in our life. Though we may not be so bold as to try to exalt ourselves above the most High God, we may instead kick Jesus off the throne of our heart and replace it with, “I will…do thus and so”! When this occurs we close a deft ear to what God is saying, and decide what we think is best for ourselves and even others.
Recognizing that in us dwells no good thing, except when Jesus comes to live in us, will keep our perspective where it belongs. It will keep us on our knees seeking the face of God for our situations, and will help us remember “that there but for the grace of God, go I”, and not pass judgment on others, but with meekness seek to help them rise above a fallen state.
