Although I read Oswald Chambers infamous work, “My Utmost for His Highest” nearly every day, I don’t always see the words reach up and gr4ab me. Today they did:

“Spiritual lust means, “I must have it at once.” Spiritual lust demand me to demand an answer from God, instead of seeking God Himself who gives the answer.: (My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers)

When I read this, I said to myself that there is a lesson here, that is too important to keep to yourself!

I was reminded of the scripture:

I was reminded of the scripture:

For your self – life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit and hinder him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit’s intense cravings hinder your old self – life from dominating you! So then, the two incompatible and conflicting forces within you are your self – life of the flesh and the new creation life of the Spirit. Galatians 5:17 (TPT)

This, my friends, is not milk! It is meat! It goes to the core of who we really are. Which passion will rule you? Will the self-life rule, or will the Holy Spirit rule? We know the answer we should give, but what is the real truth about what dominates us?

If we’re honest, we have to say that it changes with the circumstances. There are some things that rise up within us and they are easily put asunder – we know they are not good for us, we know they don’t honor God – that’s it – they’ve got to go. There are other things that we desire so much that we have a hard time even thinking of giving them up, even if it is only a dream. Hence we have “incompatible and conflicting forces” dwelling inside of us.

What is the answer? Paul continues by saying:

18 But when you are brought into the full freedom of the Spirit of grace, you will no longer be living under the domination of the law, but soaring above it! Galatians 5;18 (TPT)

Here we see what Oswald Chambers is saying, we will never find the answer within our self life. Only by seeking God and allowing the Holy Spirit free rein in our lives will we transcend the domination of the law of sin and soar above it – fully embracing the will of God, which is always so much better than anything we could ask for or even imagine.
