A Never Ending Gift!
We don’t hear too much today about character. Terms like honor, nobility, virtue – seem to be outdated. We are all too aware that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. However, does that mean that all hope is lost? That because we blew it once, twice, or ten times that we should no longer strive to be right in God’s eyes?
Fortunately, God knew His creation (all of us) would fall short. In the beginning of time He began to make provision for bringing HIs wayward children back home:
4 When people work, they earn wages. It can’t be considered a free gift, because they earned it. 5 But no one earns God’s righteousness. It can only be transferred when we no longer rely on our own works, but believe in the one who powerfully declares the ungodly to be righteous in his eyes. It is faith that transfers God’s righteousness into your account! Romans 4:4 (TPT)
I love this verse in The Passion Translation. There is no one who can’t understand this. We can never achieve right standing with God (righteousness) by working for it. In fact, as it states here the only way we can even begin the process is to no longer rely on our works, but by faith accept the work that Jesus did for us. His finished work provided a way for the “whosoever would come” to come before God and be in right standing. Jesus’ gift to us is a transfer of HIs righteousness to us.
This is the good news of the gospel, given freely to us now and with no expiration date – it’ good throughout all eternity.
Praise God!
Maria
Amen! Grateful for this gift and the many others He’s given me.
