And Then The Rain Came…

In the Chicagoland area our grounds have finally received some much needed rain. They were so thirsty that the grass had already started turning brown. And now today, after a few downpours, we are looking at green grass again! What a difference a little rain makes. God is so good, He doesn’t just quench the thirst of the ground, He will quench our thirst as well:

So lift your hands and thank God for his marvelous kindness
and for all his miracles of mercy for those he loves.
How he satisfies the souls of thirsty ones
and fills the hungry with goodness!
10 Some of us once sat in darkness,
living in the dark shadows of death.
We were prisoners to our pain, chained to our regrets. Psalm 107:8-10 (TPT)

Whether we admit it not the trials of this life will drain us dry. I can hear Mary Alessi singing “We Thirst for You”:

We thirst for You
We search for You
In a dry and barren land, we’re longing for Your hand
To guide us to, a place where You
Can cleanse us with your rain – baptize us once again
We thirst for You..

“We Thirst for You: from the album “When Women Worship”

I’ve played this song so much for it epitomizes for me the feeling I’ve often had when I was at a crossroad, feeling thirsty for a touch, a feeling, some direction. I would sometimes have a preconceived idea as to what I was thirsting for; but it was never a “what’, it was a “who”. Who did I thirst for, the maker of the rain, the molder of the earth, the fashioner of all mankind. HE made us so when asked what are the specs that we need in order to thrive, the little card reads:

Israel, my chosen one.
I am Yahweh, your Creator, who shaped you in my womb.
Hear what I have to say to you:
‘Don’t fear. I will help you, O Jacob my servant,
Do not fear, my pleasing one, Israel.
I will pour refreshing water on the thirsty
and streams on the dry ground.
I will pour out my Spirit on your children,
    my blessing upon your descendants.
They will spring up like grass blanketing a meadow,
like poplars growing by gushing streams. Isaiah 44:1-4 (TPT)
