Back to the Drawing Board!

I heard a message today from a prophet of God. The message he gave bore great witness to my spirit. It was a message concerning the days to come in this nation. Every day someone is giving a message of some kind trying to persuade people to believe a certain way. How do you know who is telling the truth and who is not? How do you have confidence in anyone, when even men and women of the cloth have rallied behind people and causes that you know in your heart (and upon reading your Bible) that are ungodly?

Now I have read in 2 Kings 6, that the King of Syria made plans to war against Israel. Before he could put the plan in motion this is what happened:

And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.2 Kings 6:9=12 (KJV)

In the Old Testament Elisha spoke with accuracy the word of the Lord. Thus it is possible for prophets today to also speak with accuracy the events to come. How do we know who the true prophets are, with so many placing out a shingle and proclaiming to be a prophet? In John 16:13(AMP) Jesus spoke these words:

But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth[full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].

We can know by the Spirit of Truth living within us, not by having our own pre-conceived ideas but staying in a posture of surrender to the God of our salvation. The heart in this posture can and will hear from God to the extent God wants to reveal things to Him. There are some things reserved for a specific time – so much so that even Jesus did not know when He would return again – that information has been reserved for only the Father to know (Mt.24:36).

As I reflect on this today, I had to confess that those things I hear, that I believe God does want me to share, I have not maintained diligence in this area. So we are back to the drawing board- I’ll ask Him what to write and then write the thoughts He shares with me. Even though they are not necessarily prophetic, it is my prayer that the words we share will all help us all to be edified and God to be glorified.
