Even A Prophet Doesn’t Always Know!

There are times all of us wish that we could see into the future. We are apprehensive about making decisions because we can’t be sure of what the outcome of those decisions will be. So we totter back and forth, never really doing what we want, sometimes not doing anything at all!

Being familiar with the story in 2 Kings the 14th chapter concerning the woman with her son lying dead at home, while she came on her way to see Elijah, it was pointed out to me that there was something that I should look at again:

And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me. 2 Kings 4:27

Elijah was known as the man that who could hear conversations going on in someone’s secret chamber. Yet in this passage he is admitting to being ignorant of why the woman was coming to him. He didn’t want her to go away, he wanted her to continue to come to him.

It’s like the in our lives too. There are things revealed to us by God and about God. We are placed in positions where we have a front row seat to what will soon occur, through the prophet’s words. There are other times when what we hope for, wait for, and even plan surprises us with an unexpected ending. At the end of every situation is the sovereignty of God. As our sovereign Lord we have to yield to His plan(s), even if it means disappointment.

When the gift of prophecy is in operation and someone speaks into another persons life, we must first and foremost realize that they speak a message given by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to something in the individual’s life now, or in the future. They can speak it, they can’t make it happen. There is no prophecy that does not bear witness to something God has already said, or began to direct in and to you.

Thank God when the prophet speaks, but remember he/she speaks in part, God knows the whole, it is to Him we must run to the altar to seek.

Amen Mother. I agree. Yielding to His plans can sometimes be difficult but we know it’s necessary.
