He Was Born Into It!
Prince George, the son of Prince William and Kate Middleton has inherited a place in line to be King of England one day. Today, he is a happy little boy, without a care in the world. His future is not something he has to work for, it was determined hundreds of years ago when the British monarchy was established, all Prince George had to do to be in line for the position was to be born into it.
In our contemporary society in the United States we have a hard time understanding this concept. We feel as if people ought to earn their way, either by virtue of education, hard work, preferably both. Often people who seem to just ‘walk into" prized positions are resented. Could this be a reason why it is so hard to consider how Jesus was given rank over all mankind:
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Hebrews 1:2-4 (KJV)
Jesus was appointed the heir of all things. When he competed his mission on earth, he resumed His Kingdom rule with the Father. He did this by virtue of His Name, for He was the Namesake of God the Father. He was given His Name before the foundation of the world. It did not change when he entered earth as a little baby, nor did it change when He suffered the cruel affliction on a wooden cross. By "inheritance" He obtained the most excellent Name – the Name that if above every name, to which "every knee will bow". The Good News He wants us to be part of His family, and He is willing to give us the family name too:
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. Revelation 3:12 (KJV)
