Isn’t It Good To Be in the Will!
One of the benefits of being in a family is to be in line to receive an inheritance. It’s even better if you’re in a family that has something of substance to leave. While we don’t joy over our people leaving us, there is a certain assurance that we loved when that person valued us enough to leave us an inheritance. Well, the richest person in the universe saw fit to do two important things for us, even though we weren’t originally part of his family:
When the right time arrived, God sent His Son into this world (born of a woman, subject to the law) 5 to free those who, just like Him, were subject to the law. Ultimately He wanted us all to be adopted as sons and daughters. 6 Because you are now part of God’s family, He sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts; and the Spirit calls out, "Abba, Father." 7 You no longer have to live as a slave because you are a child of God. And since you are His child, God guarantees an inheritance is waiting for you. Galatians 4:4-7 (The Voice)
God, the Father of His Only (blood) Son, Jesus, decided that He wanted all of mankind to be adopted, as His sons and daughters. With that adoption came certain benefits in the will; first, we would no longer to be considered to be slaves – we are a bonafide child of God! Second, as God’s child, God promises that an inheritance is waiting for us – an inheritance so valuable we could never work for, earn it, or satisfy its’ requirements – that inheritance is to live a life forever and ever! Think of it – this is not based upon what may be left after the testator dies – it is based on a God who has endless supply!
And while we rejoice at the second part, let us not ignore the first part. – we now have a life where we have been made free – no longer a slave in bondage to man or even our own destructive passions. We have been given a new heart from which flows a new nature, an enlightened mind, a clearer vision, a forgiven life. How many ways are there to thank this King, who chose to be born a baby, enter into a fallen world, endure countless temptations, and suffer a criminal’s death – all so that we could be counted legal to be in His will.
