Psalm 27 continued…
Psalm 27 is rich in expression. The fourth verse gives an abundance of adoration for the Lord, straight from David’s heart:
Here’s the one thing I crave from God,
the one thing I seek above all else:
I want the privilege of living with him every moment in his house,
finding the sweet loveliness of his face,
filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace.
I want to live my life so close to him
that he takes pleasure in my every prayer. Psalm 27:4 (TPT)
We all, believers and non-believers alike make many requests of the Lord. How many of us however, have a "craving" for one thing above everything else, and that craving being to live in the house of the Lord every moment. To abound in the loveliness of God’s grace and glory. To live a life so close to the Lord that God isn’t regretful of our fellowship, but because we love Him so much He "takes pleasure" in our prayers.
Unless we have ever experienced this kind of fellowship, it is hard to imagine that it would be foremost above all prayers. The truth is, if we ever. attain it, there is nothing that will ever compare to this kind of intimacy with the Father. Some things that we desire may seem as if attaining them would completely fill our heart to overflowing. Yet, they are only temporary pleasures, that leave us wanting for something more. David saw the complete substance of what God was to hIm. There is something else that David also realized and that was what God had done for him was worthy of everything within him. In another Psalm he expresses it this way:
Lord, I passionately love you and I’m bonded to you, for now you’ve become my power! You’re as real to me as bedrock beneath my feet, like a castle on a cliff, my forever firm fortress, my mountain of hiding, my pathway of escape, my tower of rescue where none can reach me. My secret strength and shield around me, you are salvation’s ray of brightness shining on the hillside, always the champion of my cause. Psalm 18:1-2 (TPT)
After running and hiding so many years from Saul, God’s deliverance made David see the matchless love of God for him; he couldn’t help not only giving God praise, but also desiring to give God his all.
