Take Me To The Laundry!

It’s that time of year, to wash the comforters and pillows, sanitize everything so that germs don’t grow. We want to be healthy, free from disease. There is a kind of dis-ease that no amount of laundry detergent or disinfectant can cleanse. It’s the accumulation of debris that grows in the heart, this kind only a God can take to the laundry:

Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean, scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life. Tune me in to foot-tapping songs, set these once-broken bones to dancing. Don’t look too close for blemishes, give me a clean bill of health. God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life. Don’t throw me out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in me. Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails! Give me a job teaching rebels your ways so the lost can find their way home. Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God, and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways. Unbutton my lips, dear God; I’ll let loose with your praise. Psalm 51:10  (MSG)

Oh yes, when the Holy Ghost comes in like a super washing machine it cleanses the heart, it puts dancing in the feet and brightness in the demeanor. Everything seems brand new and every day feels like Sunday. Unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, resentment, jealousy, just to name of a few of the many things that cause our hearts and our countenance to become dark can be purified in a moment’s prayer. Instead of heading down the road of dis-ease we begin to walk in the glorious liberty of the child of God.

It’s so worth it. In fact nothing is more important than allowing God to do what He does best, set us free:

"If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you." John 8:31 (MSG)
