The Great Escape!

Sometimes we don’t have a great testimony – things have pretty much been on an even keel. Yet, if we stop and think about it, there is always one testimony that never gets old:

³ According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

⁴ Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 3-4 (KJV)

We serve a God who has given us everything that we need for this life, and He did it by giving us knowledge of His glory and virtue. To add to that we have been given “exceeding great and precious promises” – why? So we can be “partakers of His divine nature” and best of all we have “escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”.

At first glance this might not seem like the treasures of silver and gold promised to Solomon, but if you look closely at the world today and see the perversion and ungodly behavior, you might realize that by giving us “the great escape”, from this corruption we have been afforded a priceless gift. We have escaped heartache, the pain of guilt, horrendous diseases, a world without hope either for this life or the life to come. It reminds me of the chorus of a song written by Reba Rambo:

My Father is Lord of everything 
From here beyond forever 
He’s given me His name said if I’d ask anything 
He’d gladly give it 
He put a robe upon my back 
Placed a ring upon my hand 
Said the riches of heaven were all mine 
It’s not because of what I am 
Not because of what I’ve done
