The Holding Pattern!
The Holding Pattern!
One of the things I like least about flying is when my flight is scheduled to arrive at destination at "rush hour". Particularly when flying into Chicago – there are so many flights around the five – seven o’clock hour that you can wind up in a holding pattern that can last even up to an hour! Circling and circling and circling again is not fun to me. So close to the finish line (my destination) and yet so unable to get to it.
Life has some of these same kind of "holding patterns". You know that you are close to a breakthrough and yet… nothing seems to be happening! You have prayed and sought God all you know; you have been faithful; you have been obedient; you have waited, and waited, and waited – and still – nothing is happening. What many of us do at this time is begin rebuking the devil and looking for our own loophole so we can settle the matter. Trying to force the issue usually results in disaster.
There are many scriptures that speak to this season in our lives, and some of them seem to say very clearly, "have you forgot who you are trying to outsmart – the God of the universe":
On one occasion, while he was eating a meal with them, he emphasized that they were not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. Acts 1:4 (PHILLIPS)
"…all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come."Acts 14:14 (KJV)
7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: Psalm 37:7
Whatever the situation, whoever the person -waiting is tough, but it is the one activity that we will do the most of as a Christian! Can somebody say, "Amen"?
