What is Your Aim?

I ran across a quote today that got my attention:

"Aim at Heaven and you will get Earth ‘thrown in’: aim at Earth and you will get neither."  C.S. Lewis

It took me only a moment to think about this and immediately the Words of Jesus came to mind:

29 And He said to them, "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who will not receive many times as much in this present age and in the age to come, eternal life."Luke 18:29 (AMP)

Those who make a decision to wholly follow the Lord never really lack anything. Not only are they provided for in their sojourn on earth, but they live to reap life eternal in the next. The aim however is not to "receive", but to follow.

On your travels through a new region or a faraway country, it is possible to see many beautiful and worthy places of interest. However, a good tourist guide can unfold innumerable treasures in much less time as you travel because they know the terrain and the noteworthy and valuable  places of interest.  Jesus is the Master tourist guide for this life. He, who was with the Father as He spoke the worlds in place knows all the places where treasures are hidden. As our beloved Lord He wants to share those treasures with us, not withhold them. Yet, His journey will not take us one foot before the other; He has destined that our treasure be found by keeping our eyes on Him:

"…let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, 2 [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], "Hebrews 12:1b-2a (AMP)
