What’s the Use of Words?
Have you ever had on a talk show, or news station that just talks, talks, talks? In fact the sound of their voices is so annoying you want to throw something at the t.v.! We live in a world where people get paid just to ‘talk". And there are people who will never get paid to talk that engage in "talk" just for talking sake – no substance, no rhyme or reason – just talk.
Yet, the wisest man who ever lived outside of our Lord had this to say in Proverbs 25:11 (The Voice):
A well-spoken word at just the right moment is like golden apples in settings of silver.
For those of us who live in areas where fruit is in abundance, we may not appreciate the value of this analogy. A society that was often threatened by dessert temperatures can appreciate beautiful, ripe fruit set in a tree whose blossoms are like a beautifully orchestrated silver filigree bowl. In the original Hebrew the word "fitly" is used – which constitutes a wheel. In the above text it reads, "at just the right moment". So kind of putting all this together, we see that a word that rolls along smoothly, at just the right time, is like beautiful fruit (probably delectable oranges) beautifully arranged in an intricate, carved bowl of silver (maybe referring to the orange blossoms). With this picture in mind, we can appreciate this kind of "talk". For it is not merely talk, it is words that create, produce, inspire, motivate, and move us into action. We get propelled by those "words" that are spoken at just the right time, a kairos moment in time, which God Himself has designed for you to DO that special thing He has uniquely gifted you to do.
Prophets arise and declare the Word of the Lord!
