You Don’t Have to Take Anyone Else’s Word For IT!

It is good when a man or woman has such a good report about their life that others can take them at their ‘word’ and know that it is good. Once in our civilization, men would die on for the honor of their word. Sadly, this is not today’s norm. Thus it behooves us in most instances to search out a matter for ourselves.

Two thousand years ago, there were a people who gladly received the gospel, but they were astute enough to not just take the word of the presenter, but to study for themselves:

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11 (KJV)

The citizens of Berea were more receptive than the citizens in Thessalonica as Paul attempted to bring the revelation of Jesus the Christ to them. However, upon hearing and receiving Paul’s teaching, they "daily" searched the scriptures for themselves.

Today, there is in this country the kind of accessibility to the scriptures that you don’t even have to own a Bible to be able to search out the scriptures. Online Bibles, commentaries, scholarly teachings and of course daily teachings flooding the airwaves make it possible for everyone to be able to learn for themselves the truth of God’s Word. Yet, with all that is available, we still have a citizenry in this country where seventy-five percent of respondents in this nation say they are Christian, but only 24% take the Bible to be literal. Of the seventy-five percent, I wonder how many have ever like the Bereans searched it out to see if it was true?

The cry remains today, as in the days of Joshua; God has given us a good land, a plenteous land, it is our decision:

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
