You Think You Know Him?

I hear people say, “I know the Man”. This is their reference to the God of the universe. They can so casually state that they know Him, as if He can be known as a friend or brother. Well, scripture tells us something different:

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! Romans 11:33 (KJV)

The Apostle Paul who is said to have gone into the third heaven had this to say about God. That not only were His wisdom and knowledge rich and without measure, but so were His judgments and His ways! We can pursue Him all of our lives and still not really know all there is to know about God.

To imply that we “know the Man”, is a pretty good indication that we haven’t even entered pre-school in our knowledge of Him. Scripture further states:

17 Therefore, [let me warn you] beloved, knowing these things beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men [who distort doctrine] and fall from your own steadfastness [of mind, knowledge, truth, and faith], 18 but grow [spiritually mature] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:17-18 (AMP)

There are plenty of people who will carry you away on a tangent full of distorted doctrine and fantasized knowledge of God. We are to resist them! Instead we are to “grow” in both the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is a growing way – one step at a time, one day at a time. The one thing you learn about God when you have walked with Him any length of time is that He is never in a hurry. He is patient with us, He is long-suffering with us, He loves us so much that He would rather take forever for us to get one lesson right than teach us all His ways in a New York minute.

The best we can do is to yield to His plan for our lives. “There is a way that seems right unto a man…” – again, resist THAT way, and cleave to the only One who is and always be “truth” and He will help you get to know Him!
