It’s Poetry!
As I have said before, reading different translations give you new insight into a familiar passage. Such was the case today when I read a very familiar chapter in Hebrews 10:
36You need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God’s will and then you receive the promise in full. Hebrews 10:36 (TPT)
What is poetry? According to Webster it is:
“…writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm.”
As God unfolds the pages of our life, written on those pages there is a “concentrated awareness of experience” and then God (if we let Him) will “arrange and create a specific emotional repose that will have meaning (purpose), it will have sound (our heart’s response), and develop a rhythm (our actions). All of this is a tied up in a beautifully crafted poetry which God had in mind for us shown in His promises, since the beginning of time.
Why this scripture was so significant to me is because just below verse 36 is my life verse:
“And he also says,
My righteous ones will live from my faith.
But if fear holds them back,
my soul is not content with them!”
39But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life! Hebrews 10:38-39 (TPT)
In reading the 36th verse I realized that the warning in verses 38-39 makes sense. My life has a cadence written into beautiful events designed and created by my Father, that if I take heed will mete His promises. But if I allow fear to hold me back, if I forsake the righteousness of God, I will surely miss these treasures. I say again, however, “I am not one held back by fear, or among those who forsake my faith for the pleasures of sin, I am one who holds on to the poetry of His will to experience true life!” And that, my friend is a Selah moment.
