And the Government Shall Be…
Isaiah 9:6 portrays a rich forecast of the expected Messiah. It is so clear that many brilliant scholars missed it because they attempted to put an infinite God in a finite package! As we continue in this verse we see;
The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders. His name? His name we’ll know in many ways— He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing, Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (The Voice)
Such descriptive words that illustrate a deliverer who will be ALL to ALL. And yet for us King James folk we rest on those words, "and the government will be upon His shoulder"… Yes, the government was upon His shoulder – not the Ceasor, or the King, or the Czar or the President – not a man limited in capacity to rule – but one who could carry not only the weight of one nation, but the weight of the entire world.
Yet this still did not completely describe His resume; for He also would be a "wonderful counselor, also our God, our Father, the One who would make us Whole and complete not just for a season, but for an eternity. Yes, He would be a peace-maker – in fact the Prince of Peace; but that peace would be far greater than a peace treaty – it is a peace resonating from within that contagiously affects all those around.
In the reign of this Kingdom there will be no gun or sword – rather the death of the enemy will not be visible to the eye. The enemy slain will be that of the enemy of our soul – slain by the Holy Spirit – invisible to the naked eye, but whose impact will rescue one heart at a time from the damnation of hell.
This is no ordinary man, this is God Incarnate – well able to deliver – your soul, my soul, our friends and family, (and enemies)and then still rhave time to ule the nations!
