God Is So In To Family!

This time of year there are families coming together from all over to celebrate their family-at-large. We call them family reunions. Do you know that family reunions are not some new phenomena, they have been going on a long time:

10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

11 A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed. Leviticus 25:10-11 (KJV)

Can you imagine a year long celebration – with family!?!

Yet, here in this passage we see that in the year of Jubilee, that every man was to return to his family and plant no crops, but rather to live off that which grew on its’ own. Can you imagine the kind of manna that harvest produced to feed families that had come together for a reunion?

Our minds are so small that we often have to strain ourselves to figure how to get the money together to come together for a three-day reunion – the hotels, the food, the transportation, the t-shirts for all – etc, etc. And yet, thousands of families do just that, because no matter what transpires over the years, no matter how many times we fall out – when we get together – all we remember is that we are family, joined together by love and that love becomes food for our soul.

When I think about the joy I have when my family comes together, I am reminded of the song, “I Can Only Imagine”. For I can’t even begin to imagine the joy that I will have one day when all of our family, from every tribe and nation come together and celebrate on that great “gettin up morning”!
