None Like Thee!

Justice is the cry of the hour! Men and women cry out for government to save them from the oppressor, the criminal, the enemy that lurks within the shadows destroying their peace. Whereas there it is always in order for a society to implore their government to establish just laws and maintain a peaceful and orderly society, there are some wars that the government cannot fight for us.

In Psalm 73 the Psalmist speaks of a war that raged within him. He spoke of the envy that he had for those who prospered, even though they were wicked. He spoke of how they walked with pride, because all of their desires seemed to be met. Most of all he spoke of how he felt about watching them. How it made him feel, the anger, the rage, the jealousy. Then the Psalmist went into the sanctuary of the Lord. Only then did he realize that no matter how bold the ways of the wicked; no matter how much earthly gain they achieved, there was a day coming when none of that would help them. There was a day when they would have to meet their maker and all of their worldly  goods could not answer for the way they lived.

The Psalmist came into the realization that he had a treasure on this earth that riches could not buy:

5 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. Psalm 73:25, 26 (KJV)

I have been where the Psalmist was. I have envied those who were prosperous and those who were powerful and those who seemed to have an abundance of all that they could ever want. I pondered how they could get away with their wicked ways and still prosper.  Yet, I also like the Psalmist one day entered into the presence of the Lord, in His sanctuary, and discovered that having God was more than enough. That having God meant having everything. I realized that no matter what the problem, I had the problem-solver at my hand; no matter what the trial, the just Judge ruled over the court; no matter what the need, Jehovah Jireh was my provider.

Yes, there are times when our heart fails us, yet God IS the strength of our heart. There is none like Him in all the earth. And His very essence is love.
