What Can I Say?

The days of our years are threescore years and tenand if by reason of strength they be fourscore years…" Psalm 9010)KJV)

This morning when I woke up I determined to go through this day quietly. I didn’t want to draw any attention to myself. It wasn’t long until I realized that this day is not significant because of anything that i have done, rather it is significant because of what God has done! Seventy years ago, as Chicago’s wind increased an already blinding blizzard, my father had to carry my mother to the hospital because I was on the way!

By God’s grace mother and baby did well. By God’ abundant grace He has given me seventy years of life. Challenges have come, some physical, some emotional, and some downright frightening. Yet, as Andrae Crouch used to sing,  "Though it all,I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God."

I have not accumulated silver or gold; there are too many things I’ve started and have not completed. I marvel every day however,  at the goodness of God who shaped the lives of my eight children and are doing the same for my 26 grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren. I am grateful for the ability to take care of myself, to maintain independence, to think clearly, and even still dream a little. Yet, with all that I have to be grateful for, my heart cannot rest until I have completed the major task that still lays unfinished. What is that? To fulfill the mandate assigned to every generation:

One generation after another will celebrate Your great works;
they will pass on the story of Your powerful acts to their children.Psalm 143:4 (The Voice)

There are more I need to tell the story to;  not my story, but the story of the powerful acts of the great God that allowed me to see how marvelous, how wonderful, His great love is for those who will receive.
