Kindness…
This week-end I saw an act of kindness that made me take inventory. I am taking an intense class and the subject matter is extremely difficult, and even more challenging because there is a great deal of it. There are about 300 people taking a part in this training, some in Year 1, some in Year 2, and some in Year 3. I am in the Year 1 class and like many others have wondered how I am going to master all of this information and successfully pass the exam coming up this week.
One of the very youngest members of our Year 1 group, is very smart and has a good handle on the subject matter. She made over 100 flash cards, put them on line in a program that will test you on them, and then sent it to all the people in the class. I marveled at this act of kindness. While many of the others were out partying, she assembled all of this work, and then shared it with the entire group! I have always tried to be one to help people, but this was kindness such as I have never seen in my many years of going to school.
There is one virtue spoken of in the Bible that we all can participate in, that is the virtue of being kind. It doesn’t cost us anything, we don’t have to go through hurdles, cross terrible terrain, or climb mountains – it is one of the attributes of God, and if God be in us, all we have to do is let God be God through us:
11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile,[circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized,[b] slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:11-13 (NLT)
It is as simple as deciding what you are going to wear, to allow the Holy Spirit to clothe you in kindness. Let’s challenge ourselves to get a new wardrobe!
