Tomato, Tomata – There’s Still Only One In Charge!

Today all over this nation, people are celebrating Halloween. During the Middle Ages, October 31st evening into November 1st, became a celebration of All Saints Day, where those saints who had passed on, were remembered.  Many traditional churches yet celebrate it today. In America, Halloween was discouraged in colonial days, but by the 1800’s the European custom of Halloween harvesting crops were celebrated and children participated in games and bobbing apples and the like. Between 1920 and 1950 the custom of trick or treating took root, and with it vandalism and other vicious acts occurred. Today, the Halloween market grosses a stupendous 8 billion dollars with candy, costumes and decorations. What was once a sacred holiday in the Christian church has turned into a multi-billion industry right behind the sales at Christmasm often with people committing heinous acts against children!

As the old saying goes, tomato, tomata – say it whatever way you want, and call it whatever you want – in the final analysis there is only "one" that matters in the scheme of things and that is, the One that is called Jesus! When all of this world’s plans and schemes are called out and with it our lives, only what we have done for Christ will last:

Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does. 1 Peter 5:8-9 (MSG)

Yes, it seems as if evil is predominant now – but HOLD ON – trouble don’t last always. Faith, consistent, steadfast faith; has great rewards. Before you know it, God comes through with mighty plans for us on this earth, and an even more glorious eternity has been planned out. So take heart my friends, when the trick or treaters pass by – pray for them, share a tract, believe that one day they too will come to know the only One who is really in charge!
