God Framed My Day!

Words are not things that you can touch like a person, but they are just as alive. Words can bring healing or bring disaster. They can encourage or crush you. They can build you up or tear you down. James speaks of the power of the tongue:

Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! James 3:5 (KJV)

Yesterday I witnessed the power of the tongue in a different way. I had an appointment with the doctor because at my last visit my blood pressure had been elevated. Over the past couple of weeks I have tried to reduce sodium, get more water, and even stopped drinking decaf coffee before my visit. Naturally I was crushed when I arrived to find it was still quite high. I didn’t know what else to do. As I waited for the doctor, I fell on the mercy of God, asking Him to help me. As I quietly prayed in the spirit and breathed, I awaited the words of the doctor.

When she came in, she was very kind and spoke soft and gentle words concerning the bp report. Then she told me to take deep breaths – and I began to just breathe in and out slowly. She then took my pressure again, and it was amazingly lower than it had been for months! I was in the normal range!

As she looked at my record, she said "I’m not going to change a thing" – and said ‘you are a very lucky woman, your life has been spared for a purpose, you’re not finished yet"! I corrected her and told her I was blessed indeed, but she went on and said "find your purpose". As I told her of my family, she said it’s more than that, it, "bigger"!

Now I don’t know the faith of this woman, it was the first time I had ever seen her. All I know she as very kind and gentle to a very concerned ‘senior’ patient who survived a stroke. I do know however, that her words spoke LIFE to me – confirming other words that have been spoken to me – and at just the time I needed them. I could only think of the familiar proverb:

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Proverbs 25:11 (KJV)

God framed my day in silver with golden words of life!
