A Prophet With Power!

The words of scripture are a single thread woven carefully into a master garment that was put on parade for all the world to see, even for generations to come. Even though scholars vary on the number of Old Testament prophecies that spoke of the coming Christ – there are anywhere from 40 to nearly 400! One of the scriptures that continuously speaks is from the prophet-deliverer Moses:

He will raise up from among your own people a prophet who will be like me. Listen to him. (The Voice)  Deuteronomy 18:15

Moses struggled with the children of Israel to get them to listen and obey the voice of the Lord. Although they recognized him as a prophet sent from God, their rebellion constantly caused them to wander into disobedience. In fact, before the children of Israel could go into the promised land, all those who entered the wilderness died, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb.

A new generation swore to listen to the Lord God in Joshua 1:

They answered Joshua, saying, "All that you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 Just as we heeded Moses in all things, so we will heed you. Only the Lord your God be with you, as He was with Moses. 18 Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage." Joshua 1:16-18 (NKJV)

By the seventh chapter of Joshua – disobedience once again reared its’ ugly head.

What would make the words of another prophet different? The difference was that this prophet who God would raise up would not only speak the words of life, He was the Word Himself:

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 (NKJV)

This Word, was full of the truth, but He was also full of grace- granting pardon to those who had disobeyed and then giving power to all those who would believe on His Name.

Thank you Lord,

Maria
